The Central Banking Authority of Kosovo, during a media conference organized on Thursday, December 13th 2007, made public the balance of payments of Kosovo for 2004-2006. The comprehensive date is available on CBAK website www.cbak-kos.org . The main comments which can be made are the following:
The deficit of the current account in 2006 was higher compare to 2005 (17.2% of GDP compared to 15.5%), this was mainly caused by the deficit of the trade balance. This deficit was mainly financed by the flow of income from immigrants, direct foreign investments and donor assistance, without this inflows deficit would have been even higher. A positive sign is that direct foreign investments have noted an increase for more than twice compared to 2005. This flow of investments was tied to the privatization process as well as the increase of investments in the banking sector in general.
